Week 522, Saturday 15th until Friday 21st June 2024.

Misfits Mid-Life Crisis Adventures In Surrey, Northamptonshire, East and Central London.

Last weekend the family had a surprise b’day party for mum. It really was a surprise because her special day was not for several months. There had been chat about having it in July or August, in the end it was decided to hold it last weekend. All the plans to sit in the garden were scuppered by the good old British Summer weather; it rained on and off (more on, if I think about it) all day.

“Mum Smiled When I Gave Her This Rubbish As A Prezzie”.

As mentioned, this was a surprise party, but it turned out that my sister SAZ and I had both accidentally mentioned names of people coming hoping that mum had not noticed. Mum of course sees and hears everything. Thank you, mum, for looking surprised at the appropriate time. Mothers really are the best.

“Sisters”.

Everyone really had a lovely afternoon, especially Mum who loved being surrounded by all her grandchildren. This was the first time in a very long time that we were all together. We don’t live in different parts of the world, but normal boring life gets in the way. I am fully aware how lucky I am to be so close to many of the family. We really must get together more often. A huge thank you to SAZ for all you did to make the afternoon successful (I will buy you drinks on the beach in a few weeks).

And Now For Something Completely Different……

“My Interview Set Up”.
“Cheese”.

This week I had my 3rd interview since January. Yes, you read that right. These 6 months I have applied for hundreds of jobs and have only had 3 bites. This one was virtual, so I dressed smart for the camera and stayed scruffy out of shot. I really wanted this job working for a large organisation as an admin assistant, spending some days at home and others in the office in central London.

“Failing To Look Intelligent”.

I spent hours researching information about the company and had facts and figures memorised ready to impress the interviewer, of course none of them were needed or asked for. I didn’t attempt to scatter any of the useless info into the conversation because it would have just sounded strange. I had waffled enough trying to impress as it was.

“I Either Need To Stop Knitting, Or Try To Give These Away”.

The interview went well, the person said they were impressed with a few things I had put in my application. The chat was the easy part of the process, a little while later I received an e-mail with the 1hr two section test. The first part was to compose replies to correspondence sent into the organisation; the second section was more figures oriented. Stupidly I spent far too long on the first section because I wanted to compose the perfect answers. This mean that there was just not enough time to complete the part two. With minutes to spare I submitted what I had completed, feeling very disappointed and deflated. Friends and family have said that tests like these are a small part of the recruitment process, personality (the chatting part) is more important. They have fingers and toes crossed, I won’t hold my breath and will continue to apply for suitable roles. If I get an e-mail in a few weeks with good news that would be lovely, but I cannot allow myself to really think about it, the interview is history. Lesson learned, deal with the difficult section of the test first.

My job-hunting adventure continues……

And Finally….

“A Very Rambling Unplanned Stroll”.

After I have published this ramble, I will be off to central London to attend a cinema full of Doctor Who fans to watch the last two episodes of the current series. The first episode that will be shown is The Legend Of Ruby Sunday which was broadcast last Saturday, then at the stroke of midnight along with UK iPlayer and Disney Plus worldwide viewers we will be watching the series finale Empire Of Death. The series is only 8 episode which have been broadcast over 7 weeks. As it’s a long wait until Crimbo I will restart my one episode a day rewatch from the beginning of the series in 1963. I love modern Who, its beautifully produced in every way, but there is something very special about the classic years 1963 to 1989 & 1996, especially the black and white era (1963 to 1969) which is definitely my favourite period. This fan is extremely excited to be returning to the series beginnings.

“Love Looking Up”.

This first series of the 15th Doctor has been enormously good fun, and I am very much looking forward to the festive special and series 2 in 2025. Next week I will report more about the cinema trip, unless there is something more interesting and important to say.

“Home Grown”.

R.I.P Donald Sutherland, who kept me and millions entertained for decades. P.s. I loved him in Kate Bush’s Cloudbusting video (1985) so much.
